Melvin Gordon Mediocre In Week 1

This article first appeared on

Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon got the game started right by taking a handoff 21 yards from his own six yard line to help get the team out of the shadow of its own end zone. He also made the score sheet by making an acrobatic dive for a touchdown in the second quarter. The problem is that he was basically a ghost for the rest of the game. Gordon finished with just 54 rushing yards on 18 carries, and he got called out by head coach Anthony Lynn after the game for his lackluster performance. Gordon has the potential to be an RB1, but he’ll need to get more consistent to live up to it. Hopefully, he was just weighed down by the difficulty of facing one of the best defenses in the NFL.
